CD Projekt Red says Paramount’s live-action Cyberpunk 2077 movie will expand the universe rather than retell V’s game story.

Text No change

**Evidence label: Reported** — In comments reported by IGN and corroborated by Polygon and GamesRadar+, CD Projekt Red says Paramount’s live-action **Cyberpunk 2077** movie will not retell V’s storyline one-to-one. The project is being framed as a new story set in the Cyberpunk universe, rather than a direct adaptation of the game’s campaign.

That distinction is useful at this early stage: the film’s existence and Paramount partnership were reported earlier this month, but there is still no announced cast, director, production start, title beyond its connection to the game world, or release date. “Original story” describes the reported approach, not a finished screenplay or a confirmed theatrical plan.

**What is known:** CD Projekt Red is involved with the project, Paramount is developing the live-action film, and company comments indicate it will expand the setting instead of reproducing the game’s plot. **What remains unknown:** filmmaker, cast, schedule, rating, and release window.

Reel Radar will treat future casting or plot claims as reported or rumor until they are attributable to the studio, filmmakers, representatives, guilds, or a comparable direct source. Checked 2026-10-18 00:29 UTC.
