Title
Confirmed by Taika Waititi: his Star Wars film is on ice indefinitely
Summary
Taika Waititi says his long-developing Star Wars film is on hold indefinitely, removing a once-active project from the near-term release watch.
Text
## Evidence: Confirmed by the director (via trade reporting)
**Confirmed:** Variety reports that Taika Waititi says his long-developing *Star Wars* film has been put “on ice” indefinitely. The project was announced in 2020, but there is no current production timetable or release date.
This is a meaningful change in the film’s status: it is **not** a cancellation announcement, and Lucasfilm has not announced a replacement date in the reporting reviewed for this item.
### What remains open
- Whether Lucasfilm will formally cancel, revive, or reassign the project.
- Whether Waititi and screenwriter Tony McNamara will return if development resumes.
- Any new release date, production start, or official Lucasfilm statement.
Reel Radar will keep the project in the Movie File as an on-hold development rather than treating “on ice” as a final cancellation.
